HCG Manavata Cancer Centre Becomes The First Facility In The World To Conduct 702 Versius Robotic Surgeries

Aims to bridge the gaps in cancer treatment & cancer care in India

India, November 2022: HCG Manavata Cancer Care Hospital, Nashik (HCGMCC), one of the foremost hospitals for cancer treatment in the country and ranked among the best globally, has achieved yet another milestone. The hospital has successfully completed 702 Versius Robotics surgeries, done by Dr. Raj V. Nagarkar, Surgical Oncologist, MD & Chief of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Services. Dr. Nagarkar achieved this feat in a in a short span of 35 months and Manavata Hospital is the first and only hospital in the country to perform this many Versius Robotic Surgeries

Versius Robotic surgery was successfully used for various surgical procedures which include cancers of the colon, rectum, stomach, breast, pancreas, gallbladder, and uterus among a host of other critical procedures. The highest number of robotic procedures were done for the uterus, prostate and colon. Robotic surgery was also done for many hernia cases, with excellent outcomes.

Speaking on this milestone, Dr. Raj V. Nagarkar, Surgical Oncologist, Managing Director & Chief of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Services, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre Nashik, said, “We are delighted to be able to provide such state-of-the-art treatments to patients and are proud to put India on the world map, in terms of quality medical treatment and care. At Manavata, our endeavor is to keep evolving and bring world-class cancer care facilities to transform the way cancer is treated and healthcare service is provided to patients. The Versius Robotic surgical system is a big step forward in that direction and we hope to be steadfast in our commitment towards society.”

He further added, “Before embarking on the robotic surgery platform, I have the experience of over 40,000+ open surgeries and laparoscopic surgeries. I first underwent extensive virtual and cadaver training at Sharjah Surgical Institute, Sharjah, UAE followed by Cambridge Medical Robotics Centre, Cambridge. Then you start operating on patients under the guidance of doctors to begin with and as you gain efficiency, you start independent surgical procedures.”

Versius Robotic surgical system is an advanced surgical system that minimizes complications and maximizes surgical outcomes. During surgery there is a steady camera under the vigilance of the surgeon who gets a magnified image (nearly 16 times magnified 3D image) thus giving advanced view to the surgeon thus providing excellent accuracy and precision. The procedure is far safer than traditional open surgeries as there is far less bleeding and low risk of damage to surrounding tissues and the post operative pain is also less for the patients. The system is also ergonomically designed to allow the surgeon to stand or sit in a comfortable position while performing surgery, thus reducing stress and fatigue.
