From Warm-Ups to Wow Moments: BWB Asia 2025 Day 1 in Review

The NBA and FIBA hosted the opening day of Basketball without Borders (BWB) Asia on Thursday, June 19 at the Singapore Basketball Centre. BWB Asia 2025 is part of the NBA’s new multiday immersive basketball and entertainment festival, which culminates with the NBA Rising Stars Invitational, the league’s first regional high-school basketball tournament.

Returning for the first time to Singapore since 2010, the 15th edition of BWB Asia, which also marked the 80th BWB camp in history, brought together 30 boys and 30 girls ages 17 and under from 17 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region. Participants had the opportunity to compete alongside their peers and learn from current and former NBA and WNBA players, including 2024 NBA champion Derrick White, 2024 NBA All-Star Tyrese Maxey, Duop Reath and WNBA legend and 2025 FIBA Hall of Fame inductee Ticha Penicheiro. Rounding out the roster of BWB coaches were current NBA assistant coaches Vinay Bhavnani (Toronto Raptors), Jared Dudley (Dallas Mavericks), Ronald Nored (Atlanta Hawks) and Khalid Robinson (Golden State Warriors). President of the World Association of Basketball Coaches Patrick Hunt served as camp director, while Katherine Babcock (Memphis Grizzlies) served as the camp’s athletic trainer.

Campers took part in a series of on-court drills covering defense, executing the pick-and-roll, and scoring through layups and three-point shots before scrimmaging in 5-on-5 games. Culminating the first day was a panel with Dudley, Maxey, Penicheiro, Reath, White, and FIBA Head of the Players Unit and former WNBA player Kimberly Gaucher where participants were able to ask questions relevant to their personal basketball journeys.

BWB Asia 2025 is part of the NBA’s new multiday immersive basketball and entertainment festival in Singapore that will culminate with the “NBA Rising Stars Invitational,” the league’s first regional high-school basketball tournament featuring boys’ and girls’ teams from 11 countries across Asia-Pacific competing at the Kallang Tennis Hub from Wednesday, June 25 – Sunday, June 29.
