National,  March 2023: On International Women’s Day, WorkIndia, India’s most enormous blue and grey-collared hiring platform, highlighted the upward trend of women applying in the blue and grey-collared sector or on-site jobs by breaking stereotypes.

While the leading sector witnessing the highest inquiries is laundry with a 1075% shift compared to 2021, the data has brought forth interesting data points like the finance segment has the highest number of female applicants with a staggering 621% increase compared to 2021, followed by the photography segment with 223% hike. The inquiries for labor jobs and physical trainers are next in line at 215% and 201% respectively.

Traditionally sectors that have been male dominant like machine operator, lab technician, and hardware engineering have seen a sharp increase in job applications in women too. Apart from the non-traditional sectors, divisions like beauty, hospitality, and tailoring saw the expected inquiries too. Verticals like automobiles, warehouses, manufacturing, and surprisingly tourism showed negative growth compared to 2021.

Commenting on the statistics, Nilesh Dungarwal, Co-founder and COO, WorkIndia said, “This International Women’s Day, it is heartening to witness women willing to apply in non-traditional divisions like machine operators, lab technicians, or hardware engineering. With the rapid change in perception about women globally, it is crucial that India Inc develops a conducive environment even in the blue and grey collared sector for women to flourish.”

WorkIndia, which began its journey only seven years ago, has seen an upward trend every year and currently records over 2 crore unique application sessions per month and 2.9 crore registered job seekers with a strong presence in 760+ cities in India catering to the hiring needs of over 15 lakh SMBs and multiple large corporates like Zomato, HDFC, Tata Motors among many others.
