AISATS Inducts Electric Airport Passenger Coaches from Tata Motors, Accelerating Green Mobility at Indian Airports

Lucknow, April 15: Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited announced the induction of a new fleet of electric airport passenger coaches from Tata Motors, marking a significant step in its transition towards sustainable and low-emission airport operations across India.

The first two electric coaches were formally handed over at Tata Motors’ facility in Lucknow in the presence of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the Chairman of the Tata Group. The event underscores a major milestone in strengthening green mobility infrastructure within India’s aviation ecosystem.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, AISATS has placed an order for 21 electric airport passenger coaches from Tata Motors. These vehicles will be deployed in phases across key airport stations, including Delhi (DEL), Bengaluru (BLR), Hyderabad (HYD), and Thiruvananthapuram (TRV). The initial two units will be deployed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

AISATS currently operates a fleet of 37 electric coaches across its network, and with the latest order, the company continues to expand its clean mobility footprint. An additional eight vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the end of April, followed by phased inductions of the remaining units over the coming months.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramanathan Rajamani, CEO, AISATS, said:

“Electrifying our airside and landside transport fleet is a key pillar of AISATS’ sustainability roadmap and our commitment to supporting India’s net-zero ambitions. These electric airport passenger coaches from Tata Motors will enable cleaner, quieter, and more efficient passenger movement across airports, beginning with Delhi and expanding to other stations. We are honoured to flag off this initiative in the presence of distinguished leadership, highlighting the importance of green mobility for India’s aviation sector.”

The collaboration between AISATS and Tata Motors brings together AISATS’ expertise in ground handling and airport services with Tata Motors’ leadership in electric commercial mobility solutions. Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has already deployed more than 3,000 electric buses across the country, supporting India’s transition toward sustainable transport.

The new electric coaches are designed to enhance passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility while delivering zero tailpipe emissions, reduced noise levels, and improved operational efficiency for airport operators.

AISATS will work closely with airport authorities and Tata Motors to ensure robust charging infrastructure, maintenance systems, and operational readiness, enabling maximum uptime and long-term sustainability benefits across all deployment locations.
