“Work is underway to connect the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to the Mumbai-Delhi highway which is there till the JNPT. 70 per cent of the work is done,” the minister said.

Nov, 2022, Mumbai: It is Nitin Gadkari’s dream to ensure Mumbai and Delhi are just 12 hours away by road. The Union minister for road transport and highways revealed this while speaking at the India Today Conclave Mumbai.

“My dream is that one day I will have a cup of coffee in Nariman Point and then reach Delhi in 12 hours.

For this, I have made a plan and called in consultants. I am ready to invest Rs 50,000 crore in the Mumbai-Delhi highway,” the minister said, listing his future projects.

“Work is underway to connect the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to the Mumbai-Delhi highway which is there till the JNPT. 70 per cent of the work is done,” he added.

The road and highways ministry is working to reduce road accidents by 50 percent by 2024, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said at the India Today Conclave Mumbai. “The highways that are being constructed now are being done after taking several considerations into account. I humbly accept that I have not had much success in terms of curbing road accidents,” the minister said.

“Five lakh road accidents happen in the country each year, in which 1.5 lakh people die. I have been in a road accident, too, with my wife and daughter.

“But, we need your cooperation to curb this. We are educating people, bringing changes to the law. But we need the people and media to cooperate. I am also in talks with automobile companies and with several NGOs that work to provide emergency services immediately after an accident. We will reduce road accidents by 50% by 2024,” the minister assured.
