Smiling Tree and Vijay Nagar RWA Organise Cleanliness, Plantation Drive on Gandhi Jayanti

New Delhi, Smiling Tree, in collaboration with the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Vijay Nagar, Single Storey, organised a cleanliness and plantation drive at Bhagat Singh Park, Children Park and Haqeeqat Park in Vijay Nagar on Gandhi Jayanti.

Shri Surya Prakash Khatri, MLA from Timarpur, and Shri Raja Iqbal Singh, former Mayor of Delhi and current Councillor from Mukherjee Nagar, attended the programme as distinguished chief guests. Faculty members and students from the University of Delhi, members of the legal fraternity, local residents and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees participated in the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukesh Kwatra, Founder of Smiling Tree, said, “Gandhi Jayanti reminds us that cleanliness and environmental protection are collective responsibilities. Through such initiatives, we aim to inspire citizens to take meaningful action towards cleaner surroundings, greener public spaces and a healthier future.”

Yogesh Jain, President of the RWA, Single Storey, Vijay Nagar, said, “Public parks are an important part of our neighbourhood, and keeping them clean and green requires the active participation of every resident. We are pleased to collaborate with Smiling Tree on this initiative, which brings together citizens from different walks of life for a common cause. We hope this effort encourages residents, especially young people, to take greater responsibility for their surroundings and continue contributing to the upkeep of our community spaces.”

The initiative highlighted the importance of community participation in maintaining public parks, promoting plantation and encouraging responsible waste disposal. The participation of civic representatives, educational institutions, residents and MCD employees reflected the value of collective efforts in addressing local environmental concerns.

The drive reinforced the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi’s message of cleanliness and public service, emphasising the need for sustained action to build cleaner, greener and more environmentally conscious neighbourhoods across Delhi.
