Leadership in Oncology: Cochin Group Hosts Annual Meeting and CME on Geriatric Cancer Care

Kochi, 04 February 2025: Recognizing the growing need for specialized care in elderly cancer patients, the Cochin Oncology Group (COG) is organizing its Annual Meeting and CME on Geriatric Oncology at IMA House, Cochin on 8th. With the Asian Geriatric Oncology Society as its academic partner, the event brings together leading experts to address the critical challenges and advancements in geriatric oncology.

Cancer is predominantly a disease of the elderly, with a significant percentage of cases occurring in individuals above 60 years of age. Unfortunately, for many of these patients, a complete cure is not always possible, making quality of life management a crucial aspect of treatment. “This CME will explore innovative strategies to establish successful geriatric oncology services in hospitals, ensuring a multidisciplinary and patient-centric approach,” said Dr. Arun Warrier, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, Aster Medcity – Kochi (Secretary of COG and CME Organiser).

Key Focus Areas of the Workshop are Physical and Functional Status Assessments for better treatment planning, Social and Psychological Support Evaluation to enhance patient well-being, Nutritional Optimization for improving resilience during cancer therapy, Geriatric Assessment Methodologies tailored for elderly oncology patients, and Specialized Talks on Various Geriatric Cancers, led by expert faculty.

Dr Varun Rajan, Medical Oncologist at Medical Trust is the CME convenor .The workshop will be chaired by Dr. Purvish Parikh and Dr. K. Pavithran (President, COG).
