The sector has expanded significantly with rising investments, increasing domestic production capacity and growing demand across industries such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles, automobiles, construction and consumer goods.
Chemicals and petrochemicals form the backbone of several key manufacturing industries, supplying essential raw materials used in everyday products and industrial processes. The sector’s growth has helped strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem while reducing dependence on imports for critical products.
The government said the expansion of the sector has created large-scale employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly, while supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises involved in chemical manufacturing, processing and allied activities.
The industry has also played an important role in attracting investment and boosting exports. With increasing demand from global markets, India’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector is becoming an important part of the country’s efforts to expand its manufacturing base and improve competitiveness in global supply chains.
The sector’s contribution extends beyond job creation. Growth in petrochemicals supports industries such as packaging, healthcare, electronics, renewable energy, infrastructure and automotive manufacturing, creating a multiplier effect across the economy.
Government initiatives focused on improving infrastructure, encouraging domestic manufacturing, developing chemical hubs and promoting sustainable production are expected to further strengthen the sector.
As India moves towards its goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub, the chemicals and petrochemicals industry is expected to play a crucial role in driving industrial growth, attracting investment, generating employment and supporting long-term economic development.
